Visiting Patron Goes Live

Visiting Patron Goes Live

Today, a new feature in MeLCat went live!  It's called Visiting Patron (VP). It has been in the works for a few months, and we're very excited to have it begin for the Calvin Community! The main benefit to our Calvin population is that you can now go to another VP library and check out materials on site.

Most library users in the state have a library card issued by their "home" library; if that library is a MeLCat library that participates in the VP program, they will be able to check out materials at Hekman at no cost. The reverse is also true: our patrons will be able to check materials out at other Michigan libraries (those that participate in VP).

To check out on site at participating libraries you need to present your Calvin ID and use your seven-digit ID number. Calvin patrons will only be able to use Visiting Patron to borrow those materials that our library loans. This means that some formats may be excluded.

Here is the current list of participating MeLCat VP libraries. Some libraries on the list that might especially interest our population:

  • Aquinas College
  • Cornerstone University
  • Grand Rapids Public Library
  • Grand Valley State University
  • Hope College
  • Kent District Library
  • Western Michigan University
