Background Notes on the Countries of the World is a series of
short, factual pamphlets written by officers in the Department of
State's geographical bureaus, including information on the country's
land, people, history, government, political conditions, economy,
foreign relations, and United States policy. Also included are a
profile, brief travel notes, and a list of government officials.
Background Notes are written for nearly 160 countries. Some, however,
may be currently unavailable pending receipt of reprints or revised
editions.
