The Library of English Literature (LEL) is a microform collection of literary works from Beowulf through the 19th century. Works of all genres are included, both primary and secondary. (Secondary materials are included if they are of undoubted importance or have become English classics). The collection is made up of 6,059 titles in two subcollections. There are first editions and rare, early imprints, bibliographies, letters, critical studies, biographies and historical accounts. The collection is designed so that students can examine individual works in depth as well as the social and literary careers of the authors and the impact their works had on contemporary thought.
