Renewals, Holds, and Recalls

Quick Renew: Instructions for Renewing Online

Go to the Hekman Library Catalog.  Click My Account and log in to view the items you have checked out.  For Calvin students, faculty, and staff, use your Novell userID and passphrase to log in. See alternative log-in instructions for guests, alumni, and Calvin Seminary students and faculty. Once you are logged in, click on the Items Checked Out tab and choose the items you wish to renew.  Click Renew Selected Items to complete the action. 


Holds

If a book you are looking for is already checked out you may place a hold on it. To place a hold you need to be logged in under My Account in the library catalog. 

If you are already logged in, and you are in the "Title Details" screen, locate and click on the Place Hold option in the upper right-hand corner.  **If you are not yet logged in, this option will not be displayed, so you will need to log in, and return to the Details screen of the book or item you wish to put on hold.

You will be notified when the book has been returned, and it will be held at the main (2nd floor) Circulation desk in your name for seven days. You may also ask the Circulation Desk staff in-person to place an item on hold for you.


Recalls

A recall may be requested for an item that has a due date three or more weeks in the future. Place a hold on the item and then you will need to contact library Circulation staff to activate a recall.  The person who currently has the item will be asked to return it within seven days of receipt of the recall notice.

A recall will be done for items checked out to faculty, staff, and seminary Ph.D. students, or if an item is needed for reserves. This service is only available in-person or by phone and not online via the catalog.  Ask staff at the main (2nd floor) Circulation desk, or contact Carla Moyer (Circulation Coordinator) for more information.
