Allocation of Book Budget
In order to ensure a somewhat balanced growth of the Hekman Library book collection an allocation of library funds is made to each college department at the beginning of each fiscal year. The amount of allocation varies from year to year and from department to department. Throughout the year each department book order coordinator receives monthly status reports and e-mail updates concerning departmental book ordering.
For the library the fiscal year begins in July and effectively ends May 1. This is because book ordering takes a significant amount of time to complete. As of May 1 unused allocated funds from college departments are combined and applied to other library expenses which have exceeded their allocation.
A contingency fund is available to assist in meeting needs beyond departmental allocated amounts. Department chairpersons are encouraged to communicate anticipated and unusual needs to the Library Director to assist in the matter of allocating funds.
