Calvin College Department of Nursing seeks to engage in professional nursing education that promotes lifelong Christian service. The curriculum is structured from simple to complex and the collection of nursing materials may be found in several locations. Nursing materials can be found in reference, government documents, research databases, journals, and the book collection.

ArticleFirst is an index of content from the pages of more than 16,000 journals in the social sciences, sciences, and humanities. Updated daily, this database is an excellent source for current information.

Blackwell Synergy is a database of 750 electronic journals published by Blackwell Publishing.

CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature)


CINAHL provides indexing for over 2,737 journals and contains more than 1,000,000 records dating back to 1937 including information on nursing, biomedicine, health sciences librarianship, alternative medicine, consumer health, nursing dissertations, conference proceedings, standards of practice, educational software, audiovisuals and book chapters and other allied health disciplines. Full text of more than 620 journals and 218 books is included with coverage dating back to 1937.

MEDLINE


Citations from approximately 4,800 worldwide journals with approximately 13 million references to journal articles in life sciences and a concentration on biomedicine. The majority of the publications covered in MEDLINE are scholarly journals from 1966 to the present.

PsycINFO


PsycINFO is a department of the American Psychological Association. The PsycINFO database provides access to international literature in psychology and related disciplines including psychiatry, education, business, medicine, nursing, pharmacology, law, linguistics, and social work. Sources for the database include over 1,800 professional journals, chapters, books, reports, theses and dissertations, published internationally.

PubMed


PubMed is a service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine that includes over 16 million citations from MEDLINE and other life science journals for biomedical articles back to the 1950s.

Science Direct


Science Direct is the search engine for journals published by Elsevier, the world's largest publisher of science, technical, and medical (STM) journals. It is an excellent search engine for locating the finest scholarly and peer-reviewed ATM journals.

The Hekman Library subscribes to only a small number of citations found in this database. Interlibrary loan must be used to retrieve articles. Many of the features and services offered in this database are functional only for subscribers of Science Direct. The Hekman Library does not subscribe, so Calvin users access the site as guests.
