Cayvan is located at the back of the 2nd floor and contains the library's visual media collections (movies, music, audiobooks, etc.). This area also provides five media-playback rooms and a variety of other playback devices for in-house patron use. Most Cayvan items can be checked out for up to 1 week at a time.

Books designated by the catalog as "folio" are oversized books, (generally 31 cm. or more in height or length); they are shelved together at the northwest side on 5th Floor. Art books, because they are so often larger in format than other books, are not considered oversized until they are 35 cm. or more.

Located in the blue shelving on the 2nd floor, the main reference collection of ~3600 volumes consists primarily of print materials in all subject areas. Hekman Library is a congressionally dedicated repository for government documents. Most materials collected from 2012 forward electronic, searchable via the library catalog and/or the Government Printing Office's FDSys database. Set apart and organized by author, the Recreational Reading collection includes both fiction and non-fiction works to meet the leisure and recreational needs of the students, faculty and staff of Calvin University. The collection is located on the 2nd (main) floor in the back behind Peet's. The comfortable mission-style furniture invites you to relax, stay a while, and read.
