ATLA is an index of journal articles, essays, and book reviews in the areas of biblical studies, world religions, church history, and religious perspectives on social issues, among other topics. It includes thousands of original articles and blogs, unique book reviews, and weekly worship and preaching helps. In addition, there are full text commentaries for student research such as The New Interpreter's Bible and Abingdon Old and New Testament Commentaries.

In 1971 the Calvinism Resources Database (CaRD) began as a "Calvin Bibliography" covering the years 1960-1970. It was compiled by Joseph N. Tylenda, a Jesuit priest, and published in the Calvin Theological Journal. The bibliography and database are now maintained by the curator of the H. Henry Meeter Center for Calvin Studies and are updated regularly.
