Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), according to the National Institute of Mental Health, is a "developmental disorder that affects communication and behavior" which is characterized by a wide variety of symptoms and severity, most often involving difficulty with social interactions and communication, restricted interests, and repetitive behaviors (taken from https://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/topics/autism-spectrum-disorders-asd/index.shtml). Some people with autism may have trouble with making eye contact, expressing enjoyment, following back and forth of typical conversation, understanding other points of view; they may also exhibit intense interest in certain topics, greater upset by slight changes in their routines, and sensitivity to sensory input like light, noise, or temperature. However, every person with ASD is different and capable of different things, sometimes especially gifted in certain areas like detailed memory recall or math and science, music and art.
