Hearing impairment sometimes describes hearing loss, deafness, and hard-of-hearing - the differences as far as disability relates to how the condition may impair a person's ability to process "linguistic information through hearing, with or without amplification" (taken from https://www.parentcenterhub.org/hearingloss/#def). Some individuals who are deaf may not be able to perceive any sound at all, whereas some with hearing loss may be able to perceive some sounds or speech, sometimes with the help of assistive technology like hearing aids or cochlear implants. The Deaf community has a strong culture and pride in their identity, and consequently, there are many resources available to support Deaf culture, sign language, and advocacy for those who are deaf or hard of hearing.
